This week was Good

anyway this week was good. we still as of late have not been teaching anyoone, but i think that is a sign not that the work is to hard but that i have to have more faith in the work. i think that i have to give myself more so that the lord will change me and then i can have a better influnece on the work in this area of the vineyard. You sound like you are a missionary on sunday haha. just got your day all planned out for you dont you? its a good thing that you are supermom. (all the sister in korea call you that by the way when they findout the size of our family) yesterday was a really cool day. First i had to give a what i thought would be five but ended up 15 minute talk in sacrament. when i walked in the first counselor said that i need to make it long cuz there was a lot of time so i was freaking out. but i was able to to get it out. after church we went with a member of our ward and tried visiting everyone he knows whose not a member. it was fun cuz we jsut kept driving around and he kept saying to himslef “who can we teach right now?” we taught one guy that lives near his work place on the side of the road in the Timothy squat. we had a box for a table and had preach my gospel and a book of mormon right there on the side walk. it was cool. we gotta run sorry this was weak today mom ill write you a letter and send it off this week.

i love you so much Elder 채프맨!!

Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day haha. Today i have an exchange with my old trainer, Elder hunsaker, who is currently my district leader. Im not super excited for it cuz i thought i was going to go with his companion, elder Spangler, my MTC companion. I havent gotten to see elder Spangler in action so im a little bummed but its all good because we are going to have an amzing day of finding people in the Cold of siheung. 🙂 Our city is called the city of woman in our zone because there are basically only woman on the streets during the day so that makes finding hard since we arent allowed to talk to them. The last year in this area has been where the missionaries have had one golden investigator and nothing else because there are only woman outside and knocking doors isnt very effective. But we can either make excuses or we can go out with faith that we can find an investigator who will be ready to accept the gospel. We had a ward baptism this past week and it went pretty well. The mom asked that we come to the church and fill up the font early which we had no problem with. We showed up to the church and there was about ten adults and the whole primary for an activity so i was a little confused as to why WE needed to turn a little nob on and then wait for it to fill up and then turn it off. But you have to do everything the members ask so that they will trust you and then want to refer their friends and family to us. Im still convinced that the work in korea will continue to progress at a rate of 300 baptisms a year per mission with the activity rate of 9% until the members realize that they have to participate more in this work. i think that goes for the rest of the world as well. One of the greatest things i’ve developed and commited myself to is the challenge that David O McKay issued to bring one person into the gospel each year and im going to do that after my mission as a regular full time missionary member 🙂 Im happy to see that you are already doing that mom and have always been such a good example of sacrifice for the lords work. i know that you are being and will be blessed for that commitment to God’s work and glory. We all need to rededicate ourselves to working a little harder and the world becomes more evil. I need to work harder and i need to study my scriptures more diligent in order to feast upons Christs words and allow them to affect my spirit. I love the pormise of the lord that if we search the scriptures will obtain kowledge and the warning that if we dont we shall have that knowledge taken from us. I’ve definitely experienced both sides in my life and i can testify that the first of reading the scriptures brings a lot my happiness and peace in life. i love you Mom and im so excited for this week to serve the lord will all i got. thank you for your love and support. i need to express more gratitude for what i have been given in life and you have given me my whole life 🙂 i love you

Things Warming Up…

Today is actully feeling pretty warm. we are just wereing long sleeve shirts and jeans. this last week things have started to warm up so its all good haha. this week the solo senior responsibility really hit me. but im not one to stress over things i cant control so im just going at the work the same. I had a tough week of korean and i really couldnt understand a lot but its all good because the lord is just refining my paitience and i know that things will be ok in the end. me and elder dooley tried to work as hard as we could despite the fact that the area was dead for the New year celbreations. We did go to yeoung deung po for a mission conference and president lee wore his traditionaly korean clothing. He made sure to let us know that his clothing is the style worn by rich and smart men which was hilarious because its totally the korean humble bragging but its ok cuz president is awesome enough to say that haha. i starrted writing in my journal again. i feel bad cuz last transfer like i said i got behind and it jsut piled up on me so im getting back in the habit im just not going to have a lot from last transfer so im sorry for that 😦
The ward here is great. they are reallly busy so we dont get to eat at their houses super often but they load us up with food on sundays which is a tell tell sign that the ward likes you. We did get to eat at our ward mission leaders house yesterday and he is super cool. i told about his past in dads email so inquire. We ate really well and he gave us a lot of food to made the food that he gave us so we are going to eat well this week. The ward here always seems to have one golden investigator and nothing else so we are hoping to get a golden referal soon because right now we are at the nothing else phase. me and elder dooley are getting along great. we bought airsoft guns which are super cheap in korea and we have had mini wars in the house at night before bed. we get along great and he’s going to be an amazing missionary. thats all i got for this week so have a great week and i’ll talk you all soon 🙂 i love you!!

January 9th 2011

HEllo from the warm ladn of korea!!

Not really… this week has been prretty cold and im so thankful for
some gloves and earmuffs. i swore that i would never be a wimp and use
them but the weather has beaten me and im bundled up like a true cali
kid whenever we hit the streets. im also grateful for the great
oppurtunities to share this gospel. last week we had interviews with
president and they went well and he asked us to think about how we be
just a little more obedient even if its something super little. i have
been pretty bad at working out in the morning because its super cold
in the house and im just booting up the harddrive in the morning.
those have been my excuses lately but this morning i got up and threw
the weights around a bit. im able to bench the sixty pound dumbbells
again so im going for the 70s this week. in a couple weeks i want to
go for 10 reps of the 80 pounders. i feel so good to be that kind of
sore again. but it does take a little more will power to get up on
time haha. yesterday we had lunch at our part members house. the
father is blind (but that doesnt stop him) and is way cool. hes super
smart.. you can give him a date and he will tell you what day of the
week it is on. its crazy. anyways he ordered us food to his house on
sunday (he’s not a member yet so we let it slide ha) and he got us
this plate that was 16″ wide and it was piled with a bunch of
different seafood. it was intense looking and i wish i had my camera.
i finished the whole thing so i feel pretty tough right now haha. He
has been coming to church for a long time and he promised his wife he
will get baptized this year. we tried to push him for a date this
month but he said later so we are going to keep working on him. we
have a baptism this week so ill send you some pictures of that. its
going to be my first baptism possible so im hoping things go well this
week. thats about all the action for the week im sorry that letter
writing has sucked its just tough to do in six hours on pday when you
got to eat lunch and dinner and go email and shop too in that time.
ill try and get one to you as soon as possible but just remember that
i have my journal that im writing just for you guys 🙂 i love you mom
and i am so glad to be here and there so much thanks that you deserve
for helping me get out here. i promise to serve hard all the way to
the end 🙂

Cold days on the Mission!

THis week was really cold!! it was crazy. i can get scarfs and stuff
here for cheap so ill just buy them here. we made a snow man last week
which was my first one in a long time and it was cool. ill have to
print off some of the pictures we took and send them. this week we
only got two of our investigators to church but we have a baptism
coming up so thats good. she’s special so im not sure if she needs it
but if she has a desire to be baptized we shouldnt deny of that so we
doing on the 16. it might be my first baptism. yesterday was the
highligth of my week. we had a visit from elder choi of the seventy,
the korean who gave a talk in priesthood a while back. he is super
awesome. He talked to us about the importance of reading and studying
the doctirne of CHrist as outlined in preach my gospel. we did a great
activity where we went through each verse of 2nd Nephi 31 and we
talked about what it meant us. he really told to focus on the feelings
of the spirit and say those things not just what the scripture says.
it was a cool activity and it took about an hour. today i set my goals
for the new year as well. i had a super good study and im excited for
the new year. the ward here is super cool. we have ping pong night on
wednesday and saturday. it is so fun and im going to get so good and
pinpong cuz koreans are so good. its a really good activity for our
members to bring friends to so we hope to get some investigators out
of it. i hope that you all have an amazing week we are going ice
skating so today is a little short on time but ill write a letter to
youabout more of whats been going on. i lvoe you all sorry for the
crappy email again 😦

Merry Christmas!

Im glad christmas went well for everyone. it was a little sad that i didnt have presents to open but i got to talk to you and that made everything better. im glad to be serving a mission in korea and even though it is hard at times i know that im not going through anything worse than Christ had to go through. im thankful christ and his life and example. today it is snowing!! it so crazy. its going to be a white and cold winter. i hope that my california blood can survive haha. i really enjoy the snow though probably because i didnt have to be raised in it. i dont have much to say since we talked on the phone other than thank you for all the support you are giving me. i actually had the thought to make a book for members and other missionaries to sign and put pictures in. ill just buy a book here since itll be cheaper. i love you all very much and i hope you have a good new
years!!
